Xperio® Lenses Polarized Prescription Sunglasses: The best way to clean your lenses is by first rinsing your lenses under warm running water to remove any sandy/gritty debris, clean with a mild liquid dishwashing soap to remove facial oils, rinse with water, and then dry with a soft cotton cloth. Finish by polishing your lenses with the microfiber Xperio polarized sun lenses cleaning cloth provided to you. You can also use the Xperio polarized sun lenses cloth for touch-up cleaning throughout the day when it is not convenient to wash the lenses. The super hydrophobic properties of Xperio polarized sun lenses facilitate the removal of smudges, dust, dirt, and fingerprints easily.
Transitions® Light Intelligent Lenses™: Transitions Light Intelligent Lenses can be cleaned like most lenses—with a lens cleaner, mild soap, or a microfiber lens cleaning cloth. Do not use window cleaner to clean your prescription eyeglasses, as it contains chemicals that could break down the coatings on your lenses. You should also be careful not to wipe your lenses with a surface that could potentially scratch your lenses—for instance, a facial tissue or paper towel.
Varilux® Progressive Lenses: The best way to clean your lenses is by first rinsing your lenses under warm running water to remove any sandy/gritty debris, clean with a mild liquid dishwashing soap to remove facial oils, rinse with water, and then dry with a soft cotton cloth. Finish by polishing your lenses with a microfiber cleaning cloth. You can also use a cleaning cloth for touch-up cleaning throughout the day when it is not convenient to wash the lenses. And while your lenses usually incorporate a scratch-resistant coating, you should always store them in a case as a precaution. Avoid exposing your lenses to excessive heat and temperatures for long periods (like on your car's dashboard, for instance).

Additional cleaning cloths can be purchased at any optical shop. Ask your eyecare professional about purchasing additional cleaning cloths, if needed.
Cleaning cloths can be washed on the gentle cycle in the washer or hand-washed. We recommend that you do not use any laundry additives (such as fabric softener), which could leave a residue on the cloth.
Occasional use of alcohol on Crizal Anti-Glare lenses will not be harmful. However, we do not recommend continuous, daily use.
If you are not able to remove hair spray or paint using the cleaning recommendations found above, we suggest taking your lenses to your eyecare professional for assistance.
Any commercially prepared lens cleaner formulated to be used with anti-reflective lenses can be used.
It is not advisable to store glasses/sunglasses in your automobile (e.g., leaving them on the dashboard of your car), especially in warmer climates. It is potentially damaging to the lenses and to the frame.
To better understand the effects of UV radiation on the eyes, it is helpful to know a little more about UV light. Visible light represents just a small portion of the light spectrum. On either side of the visible light spectrum are long-wavelength radiations (infrared) and short-wavelength radiations (UV). While infrared rays are relatively harmless, UV rays can pose serious risks to a person’s overall health and eye health.
Sunlight consists of two types of harmful rays: UVA rays and UVB rays. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin—leading to signs of premature aging such as wrinkling or age spots. UVB rays are the sun’s burning rays and are the primary cause of sunburn.
Excessive UV exposure is dangerous for eyes as well as your skin. It can lead to a number of serious, sight-stealing diseases such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration down the road, making ongoing protection from UV rays a must.
Glare can be described as “extreme brightness” from the presence of excessive visible light. Glare can be distracting and even dangerous and can occur day or night in a number of ways. It can cause you to squint, resulting in eye strain and eye fatigue. In extreme cases, glare can even result in temporary blindness.
There are four types of glare to be aware of:
Distracting glare can be caused by car headlights or street lights at night. It can also be as simple as light being reflected off the front of your lenses, making it difficult for others to see your eyes. Similarly, it may be from light reflected off the back—or inside—of your lenses so that you see the distracting reflection of your own eyes or objects behind you in your forward field of vision. As a result, this kind of glare may cause eye fatigue, annoyance, and distraction.
Glare can be caused by everyday, normal sunlight conditions. Depending upon one’s light sensitivity, this glare can be discomforting regardless of weather or time of day. It can be present in any level or intensity of light, or when moving from one lighting condition to another. Discomforting glare often causes squinting and eye fatigue.
This type of glare comes from excessive, intense light that can occur when you face directly into the sun. Disabling glare can block vision because the intense light can cause significantly reduced contrast of the retinal image. The latent effects can last well beyond the time of exposure.
Blinding or reflected glare
This comes from light reflected off smooth, shiny surfaces such as water, sand, or snow. It can be strong enough to block vision. Reflected light is polarized and requires polarized lenses to reduce it optimally.

Our eyes are sensitive to visible light, which is actually a very small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. Blue light is one section within the visible light spectrum, actually covering blue and violet.
The visible light spectrum includes every colour of the rainbow, and each colour spans a different range of wavelengths within that spectrum. Red has the longest wavelength and violet has the shortest wavelength. When all the waves are seen together, they make white light.
The main sources of blue light are:
- The sun (the most intense source of blue light)
- LED lights and compact fluorescent lamps
- Digital devices such as smartphones, tablets, and some TVs
- Metal halide lights, found mostly indoors in large commercial structures
Because blue-violet light is high-energy and close in frequency to ultraviolet (UV) light, which is known to be harmful, the consensus among the scientific community is that blue-violet light could potentially have negative effects on one’s health. For example, potential negative effects of blue light include age-related macular degeneration, poor sleep quality, and an increase of certain cancer risks.
However, some scientific literature and research also indicate that wavelengths in the “true” blue band (a different frequency than violet light) may have positive health benefits. For example, potential positive effects of blue light include improvement of visual acuity and depth of field and a lessening of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression associated with cooler seasons, which is thought to be caused by lack of exposure to light.
Essentially, while blue light is important and a necessary part of the way we see, too much of it (especially the type closest to UV) could be bad for your health, so it’s important to protect your eyes.
Sunlight is the primary source of ultraviolet radiation. UV light comes from all directions, reflecting off surrounding surfaces and creating dangerous exposure.
UV damage is cumulative and is often irreversible. Long-term exposure to UV radiation can damage the eye. UV light can increase the risks of certain eye conditions and diseases, such as UV-related cataracts, growths on the eye, and even certain skin cancers on the eyelids or around the eye.
Sun damage to the eyes can occur any time during the year, not just in the summer, so it is essential to wear UV-blocking sunglasses and broad-brimmed hats whenever you're outside. Xperio® polarized prescription sunglasses offer the maximum level of protection against the invisible and often irreversible dangers of UV light on both sides of the lens. Xperio polarized prescription sunglasses have an E-SPF® index of 50+. E-SPF 50 is the highest level of UV protection offered within the E-SPF index. The higher the E-SPF index, the greater the level of UV protection provided by the lens.
The sun's rays can pass through haze and thin clouds, so be sure to wear UV-blocking sunglasses before going outside during cloudy weather.
Do not look directly at the sun. Looking directly at the sun at any time, including during an eclipse, can lead to damage to the eye's retina from solar radiation.
UV damage can happen at any age. Protect the eyes of children as well as seniors with hats and sunglasses.

UV light comes from all directions, reflecting off surrounding surfaces and creating dangerous exposure. The back surface of ordinary sunglass lenses has been found to reflect light coming from the back and sides of the lens, increasing UV light exposure to the eyes. Some sunglasses and clear lenses made with higher-quality materials block UV light from transmitting through the front of the lens, but they do not address the UV light reflecting off the back side of the lens.
E-SPF is an index rating the overall UV protection of a lens. E-SPF was developed by Essilor International and endorsed by third-party experts. The E-SPF index relates to lens performance only and excludes direct eye exposure that depends on external factors (wearer’s morphology, frame shape, position of wear). E-SPF 50 is the highest level of UV protection provided by the lens

Varilux® Progressive Lenses
- Presbyopia is a natural process of aging that appears toward the age of 40.
- A presbyope has trouble seeing objects up close, similar to a camera lens that can’t focus properly.
Presbyopia is not a vision disorder but a natural process of aging that affects everyone. In fact, with time, as the lens loses its elasticity, it becomes less capable of bending and accommodating.
Around the age of 40, the effects of this progression start to be experienced. Similar to a camera with a misaligned lens, the eye can’t focus properly on the image. The focus on close objects is altered. For the emmetropic presbyope, who doesn’t require a correction for distance vision, or the ametropic presbyope, with a correction for distance vision, seeing objects from up close can be difficult.
"Everyone experiences presbyopia to a varying degree after 35, with symptoms usually noticeable from 40 onwards. As it is a natural process, you cannot avoid presbyopia. There is some evidence that hot, dry environments increase the speed of its progress, as may poor nutrition and smoking."
If you are nearsighted, presbyopia will not alleviate your existing refractive error. You might be able to continue with close work by taking off your glasses, but at some point you will feel uncomfortable. The earlier you switch to progressive lenses, the easier it will be for you to forget about your weakening sight at near. And if you’re wearing contact lenses, you may feel more bothered and will need to find a good solution.
If you’re in your 40s and finding it difficult to focus up close, you’re probably developing presbyopia, a perfectly normal age-related condition.

Transitions® Signature® lenses are completely clear indoors. Transitions® XTRActive® lenses and Transitions® Vantage® lenses have a hint of tint indoors for additional protection from light.
Most wearers find they are satisfied with the level of outdoor darkness with Transitions® Signature® lenses. But if you spend a lot of time outdoors or behind the wheel, or find that your eyes are especially light-sensitive, you may prefer Transitions® XTRActive® lenses, our darkest everyday lenses ever. If you spend a lot of time outdoors near snow or water, we also offer Transitions® Vantage® lenses, which polarize as they darken and are ideal for situations where glare is present.

CLEANING MY LENSES
The best way to clean your lenses is by first rinsing your lenses under warm, running water to remove any sandy/gritty debris, then cleaning with a mild liquid dishwashing soap to remove facial oils, rinsing with water, and drying with a soft cotton cloth. Finish by polishing your lenses with the microfiber cleaning cloth provided to you by your eyecare professional. You can also use the cloth for touch-up cleaning throughout the day when it is not convenient to wash the lenses.
Cleaning cloths can be washed on the gentle cycle in the washer or hand-washed. We recommend that you do not use any laundry additives (such as fabric softener) which could leave a residue on the cloth. Ask your eyecare professional about purchasing additional cleaning cloths, if needed.
Occasional use of alcohol on Xperio sun lenses will not be harmful. However, we do not recommend daily use of alcohol.
If you cannot remove the hair spray with a mild detergent soap and running water, we recommend taking your lenses to your eyecare professional for evaluation and removal of the hair spray or paint from your lenses.
Any commercially prepared lens cleaner formulated to be used with anti-reflective lenses can be used with Xperio sun lenses.
It is not advisable to store sunglasses in your automobile (e.g., leaving them on the dashboard of your car), especially in warmer climates. It will potentially damage your lenses and frames.
