LENS CARE FAQ

How do I clean/care for my lenses?

Xperio® Lenses Polarized Prescription Sunglasses: The best way to clean your lenses is by first rinsing your lenses under warm running water to remove any sandy/gritty debris, clean with a mild liquid dishwashing soap to remove facial oils, rinse with water, and then dry with a soft cotton cloth. Finish by polishing your lenses with the microfiber Xperio polarized sun lenses cleaning cloth provided to you. You can also use the Xperio polarized sun lenses cloth for touch-up cleaning throughout the day when it is not convenient to wash the lenses. The super hydrophobic properties of Xperio polarized sun lenses facilitate the removal of smudges, dust, dirt, and fingerprints easily.

Transitions® Light Intelligent Lenses™: Transitions Light Intelligent Lenses can be cleaned like most lenses—with a lens cleaner, mild soap, or a microfiber lens cleaning cloth. Do not use window cleaner to clean your prescription eyeglasses, as it contains chemicals that could break down the coatings on your lenses. You should also be careful not to wipe your lenses with a surface that could potentially scratch your lenses—for instance, a facial tissue or paper towel.

Varilux® Progressive Lenses: The best way to clean your lenses is by first rinsing your lenses under warm running water to remove any sandy/gritty debris, clean with a mild liquid dishwashing soap to remove facial oils, rinse with water, and then dry with a soft cotton cloth. Finish by polishing your lenses with a microfiber cleaning cloth. You can also use a cleaning cloth for touch-up cleaning throughout the day when it is not convenient to wash the lenses. And while your lenses usually incorporate a scratch-resistant coating, you should always store them in a case as a precaution. Avoid exposing your lenses to excessive heat and temperatures for long periods (like on your car's dashboard, for instance).

Crizal® Anti-Glare Lenses:

  1.  Rinse lenses under warm running water to remove any sandy/gritty debris.

  2.  Clean with a mild liquid dishwashing soap to remove facial oils.

  3.  Rinse with water.

  4.  Dry with a soft cotton cloth.

  5.  Polish your lenses with the microfiber Crizal lenses cleaning cloth provided to you.

You can also use the Crizal lenses cloth for touch-up cleaning throughout the day when it is not convenient to wash your lenses. While the hydrophobic properties of Crizal Anti-Glare coatings facilitate the removal of smudges, dust, dirt, and fingerprints more easily, the smudges and fingerprints may appear more visible on Crizal Anti-Glare lenses than on an uncoated lens.

Where do I buy/find new cleaning cloths?

Additional cleaning cloths can be purchased at any optical shop. Ask your eyecare professional about purchasing additional cleaning cloths, if needed.

How do I clean my cleaning cloth?

Cleaning cloths can be washed on the gentle cycle in the washer or hand-washed. We recommend that you do not use any laundry additives (such as fabric softener), which could leave a residue on the cloth.

Can I use alcohol to clean my lenses?

Occasional use of alcohol on Crizal Anti-Glare lenses will not be harmful. However, we do not recommend continuous, daily use.

What do I do if I have hair spray or paint on my lenses?

If you are not able to remove hair spray or paint using the cleaning recommendations found above, we suggest taking your lenses to your eyecare professional for assistance.

Can I use a lens cleaner?

Any commercially prepared lens cleaner formulated to be used with anti-reflective lenses can be used.

Can I keep my glasses/sunglasses in the car?

It is not advisable to store glasses/sunglasses in your automobile (e.g., leaving them on the dashboard of your car), especially in warmer climates. It is potentially damaging to the lenses and to the frame.

EYE PROTECTION

Why is it important to protect my eyes from UV light?

To better understand the effects of UV radiation on the eyes, it is helpful to know a little more about UV light. Visible light represents just a small portion of the light spectrum. On either side of the visible light spectrum are long-wavelength radiations (infrared) and short-wavelength radiations (UV). While infrared rays are relatively harmless, UV rays can pose serious risks to a person’s overall health and eye health.

Sunlight consists of two types of harmful rays: UVA rays and UVB rays. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin—leading to signs of premature aging such as wrinkling or age spots. UVB rays are the sun’s burning rays and are the primary cause of sunburn.

Excessive UV exposure is dangerous for eyes as well as your skin. It can lead to a number of serious, sight-stealing diseases such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration down the road, making ongoing protection from UV rays a must.

What is glare?

Glare can be described as “extreme brightness” from the presence of excessive visible light. Glare can be distracting and even dangerous and can occur day or night in a number of ways. It can cause you to squint, resulting in eye strain and eye fatigue. In extreme cases, glare can even result in temporary blindness.

There are four types of glare to be aware of:

Distracting glare

Distracting glare can be caused by car headlights or street lights at night. It can also be as simple as light being reflected off the front of your lenses, making it difficult for others to see your eyes. Similarly, it may be from light reflected off the back—or inside—of your lenses so that you see the distracting reflection of your own eyes or objects behind you in your forward field of vision. As a result, this kind of glare may cause eye fatigue, annoyance, and distraction.

Discomforting glare

Glare can be caused by everyday, normal sunlight conditions. Depending upon one’s light sensitivity, this glare can be discomforting regardless of weather or time of day. It can be present in any level or intensity of light, or when moving from one lighting condition to another. Discomforting glare often causes squinting and eye fatigue.

Disabling glare

This type of glare comes from excessive, intense light that can occur when you face directly into the sun. Disabling glare can block vision because the intense light can cause significantly reduced contrast of the retinal image. The latent effects can last well beyond the time of exposure.

Blinding or reflected glare

This comes from light reflected off smooth, shiny surfaces such as water, sand, or snow. It can be strong enough to block vision. Reflected light is polarized and requires polarized lenses to reduce it optimally.

Transitions® Light Intelligent Lenses™ with anti-reflective coating block distracting, discomforting, and disabling glare. For additional protection against blinding or reflected glare, try our new Transitions® Vantage® Light Intelligent Lenses.

What is blue light?

Our eyes are sensitive to visible light, which is actually a very small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. Blue light is one section within the visible light spectrum, actually covering blue and violet.

The visible light spectrum includes every colour of the rainbow, and each colour spans a different range of wavelengths within that spectrum. Red has the longest wavelength and violet has the shortest wavelength. When all the waves are seen together, they make white light.

What are the sources of blue light?

The main sources of blue light are:

  • The sun (the most intense source of blue light)

  • LED lights and compact fluorescent lamps

  • Digital devices such as smartphones, tablets, and some TVs

  • Metal halide lights, found mostly indoors in large commercial structures

Is blue light good or bad for you?

Because blue-violet light is high-energy and close in frequency to ultraviolet (UV) light, which is known to be harmful, the consensus among the scientific community is that blue-violet light could potentially have negative effects on one’s health. For example, potential negative effects of blue light include age-related macular degeneration, poor sleep quality, and an increase of certain cancer risks.

However, some scientific literature and research also indicate that wavelengths in the “true” blue band (a different frequency than violet light) may have positive health benefits. For example, potential positive effects of blue light include improvement of visual acuity and depth of field and a lessening of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression associated with cooler seasons, which is thought to be caused by lack of exposure to light.

Essentially, while blue light is important and a necessary part of the way we see, too much of it (especially the type closest to UV) could be bad for your health, so it’s important to protect your eyes.

What is UV light?

Sunlight is the primary source of ultraviolet radiation. UV light comes from all directions, reflecting off surrounding surfaces and creating dangerous exposure.

Why do I need UV protection?

UV damage is cumulative and is often irreversible. Long-term exposure to UV radiation can damage the eye. UV light can increase the risks of certain eye conditions and diseases, such as UV-related cataracts, growths on the eye, and even certain skin cancers on the eyelids or around the eye.

How do I protect my eyes from UV damage?

Sun damage to the eyes can occur any time during the year, not just in the summer, so it is essential to wear UV-blocking sunglasses and broad-brimmed hats whenever you're outside. Xperio® polarized prescription sunglasses offer the maximum level of protection against the invisible and often irreversible dangers of UV light on both sides of the lens. Xperio polarized prescription sunglasses have an E-SPF® index of 50+. E-SPF 50 is the highest level of UV protection offered within the E-SPF index. The higher the E-SPF index, the greater the level of UV protection provided by the lens.

The sun's rays can pass through haze and thin clouds, so be sure to wear UV-blocking sunglasses before going outside during cloudy weather.

Do not look directly at the sun. Looking directly at the sun at any time, including during an eclipse, can lead to damage to the eye's retina from solar radiation.

UV damage can happen at any age. Protect the eyes of children as well as seniors with hats and sunglasses.

What are the side effects of UV?

Premature signs of aging, skin cancer, eye disease, wrinkles, and photokeratitis.

Why would I wear eye protection when it’s cloudy outside?

Over 40% of annual UV exposure is received during conditions when people are not in full sunlight and are less likely to wear protection. Complete UV protection on your sunglass lenses can help protect the long-term health of your eyes.

Why would I need UV on the back side of my lens if it’s already on the front side? Isn’t that enough protection?

UV light comes from all directions, reflecting off surrounding surfaces and creating dangerous exposure. The back surface of ordinary sunglass lenses has been found to reflect light coming from the back and sides of the lens, increasing UV light exposure to the eyes. Some sunglasses and clear lenses made with higher-quality materials block UV light from transmitting through the front of the lens, but they do not address the UV light reflecting off the back side of the lens.

What is E-SPF®?

E-SPF is an index rating the overall UV protection of a lens. E-SPF was developed by Essilor International and endorsed by third-party experts. The E-SPF index relates to lens performance only and excludes direct eye exposure that depends on external factors (wearer’s morphology, frame shape, position of wear). E-SPF 50 is the highest level of UV protection provided by the lens

What are the benefits of prescription sun lenses?

Prescription sunglasses provide protection from the sun and glare and help people see clearly outdoors. Sunglasses can accommodate virtually any type of lens prescription, including progressive prescriptions for people with presbyopia. They are available in a variety of styles and materials. Prescription sunglasses provide clear vision with the added benefit of protection against UV rays. Prescription sunglasses make participating in outdoor activities much easier and safer for your eyes.

How often should I have my eyes checked, and when should I replace my lenses?

Your eyesight and vision are critical to your overall health and well-being. It is recommended that you have a comprehensive eye exam annually and consult your optometrist on the best lens option for you.

OTHER

What is presbyopia and how do I know if I have it?

Presbyopia is an unavoidable age-related process that begins to gradually affect vision, usually after age 40. If you experience any of the situations below, you may be presbyopic, and it’s time to consult an optometrist for a comprehensive eye exam:

  • You experience blurred vision when reading up close.

  • You find yourself holding reading material at arm's length.

  • You have trouble seeing in dim lighting, like reading a menu in a dark restaurant.

  • You experience eye strain, tired eyes, or headaches.

I have a strong prescription. How can I reduce the thickness and weight of my eyeglass lenses?

Lenses are available in a variety of different materials that will reduce both thickness and weight. Your eyecare professional will consider prescription, frame size, and your individual lifestyle when helping you decide which lens material will be best for you.

What promotions or discounts are available?

We work with multiple lab and lens manufacturing partners to offer the widest availability of lenses. Individual practices and retail outlets determine the price of finished lenses—including applicable promotions or discounts—so prices may vary.

Varilux® Progressive Lenses

WHAT IS PRESBYOPIA?

  • Presbyopia is a natural process of aging that appears toward the age of 40.

  • A presbyope has trouble seeing objects up close, similar to a camera lens that can’t focus properly.

Presbyopia is not a vision disorder but a natural process of aging that affects everyone. In fact, with time, as the lens loses its elasticity, it becomes less capable of bending and accommodating.

Around the age of 40, the effects of this progression start to be experienced. Similar to a camera with a misaligned lens, the eye can’t focus properly on the image. The focus on close objects is altered. For the emmetropic presbyope, who doesn’t require a correction for distance vision, or the ametropic presbyope, with a correction for distance vision, seeing objects from up close can be difficult.

"Everyone experiences presbyopia to a varying degree after 35, with symptoms usually noticeable from 40 onwards. As it is a natural process, you cannot avoid presbyopia. There is some evidence that hot, dry environments increase the speed of its progress, as may poor nutrition and smoking."

DOES ALREADY BEING SHORTSIGHTED COMPENSATE?

If you are nearsighted, presbyopia will not alleviate your existing refractive error. You might be able to continue with close work by taking off your glasses, but at some point you will feel uncomfortable. The earlier you switch to progressive lenses, the easier it will be for you to forget about your weakening sight at near. And if you’re wearing contact lenses, you may feel more bothered and will need to find a good solution.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU'RE PRESBYOPIC?

If you’re in your 40s and finding it difficult to focus up close, you’re probably developing presbyopia, a perfectly normal age-related condition.

WHAT'S YOUR VISION LIKE TODAY?

Your vision is evolving just as nature intended.

The signs of presbyopia can start with the small annoyances in everyday life. You may have to hold your book at arm’s length to focus. Or zoom to read on your smartphone. Perhaps you’re having trouble making out the fine print on product labels. As the day goes by, reading up close may require you to squint or even to take off your specs if you wear them.

It’s a nuisance, but it’s also a fact of life after 40 for all of us. As your eyesight changes, you need to adapt—and that means consulting your optician to find the proper lenses in order to enjoy effortless vision at any distance.

If any of these symptoms sound all too familiar to you, book an appointment with your eyecare professional. They are the experts and can recommend the right lenses for you.

12 SIGNS YOU CAN’T IGNORE

  1. I have to ask someone to read out the fine print for me.

  2. I have to hold my reading material at arm’s length to focus.

  3. I have difficulty reading in dim light.

  4. I can’t make out the small print.

  5. I find it hard to do detailed near-distance tasks.

  6. I squint to see clearly close-up.

  7. I often see blurry, get dizzy, or suffer from headaches.

  8. I have to increase the size of the text on my screen to make it readable.

  9. I have to increase the brightness on my smartphone to see better.

  10. I take pictures of small things, then zoom to see the details.

  11. I have to move closer to a light source or turn up the light to see better.

  12. I’m shortsighted and have to take off my glasses to read.

TOP TIPS TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR VISION

  • Visit your optician for an eye test every one to two years.

  • Maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle.

  • Give your eyes a break from the screen every one to two hours and do relaxing eye exercises.

  • Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV rays.

  • Protect your eyes against harmful blue light (from screens as well as the sun) with the Essilor Blue Collection.

  • Choose Varilux® lenses, recommended by a lot of expert eyecare professionals.

HOW CAN PRESBYOPIA BE CORRECTED?

People who have enjoyed good vision until the onset of presbyopia can easily use reading glasses for short-term tasks. However, when needed for longer periods, it is better to get a prescription for eyeglasses and get a pair that is specifically adjusted to your sight. Progressive lenses offer the advantage that you do not need to take your glasses off, so they maintain good vision at all distances: near, far, and in between. To get the best performance from your progressive lenses, they need to be measured with the frame you choose and adjusted by a qualified optician.

Constantly at the forefront of optical technology, Varilux lenses continue to push the boundaries to bring you sharper, effortless vision every day.

C. Distance: Look straight ahead in a natural position to see far away.

WHY VARILUX PROVES THE PROGRESSIVE LENSES CLICHÉS WRONG

Despite the great technical advances in today’s progressive lenses, long-standing clichés prevent some people from correcting a common age-related eye condition with this effective and simple solution.

DEBUNKING STEREOTYPES

There are many myths and stereotypes that may make you reluctant to try progressive lenses. Some examples:

"It takes a long time to get used to them."

False: Most people adapt quickly.

"They make your eyes lazy."

Simply untrue! In fact, correcting your vision is the best protection you can offer it.

"You have to move your head constantly to find the right angle to see sharply."

Not any longer; Varilux lenses eliminated this problem years ago.

The truth is that wearing progressive lenses isn’t a problem, but leaving presbyopia uncorrected is.

HOW COMFORTABLE ARE VARILUX LENSES?

With progressive lenses, you no longer have the bother of changing glasses or making other adjustments. Here are reasons to adopt Varilux.

CAN I TEST PROGRESSIVE LENSES?

Essilor provides vision service providers with virtual reality tools that allow you to see the benefits of your new lenses before purchasing them.

THE NAUTILUS™ TOOL: AN IMMERSIVE WAY TO EXPERIENCE YOUR LENSES

The Nautilus tool is a remarkable 3-D virtual reality headset that immerses you directly into a real-life experience of varifocal lenses at the office, in a taxi, etc. Generally, you only get to try lenses after purchasing them and returning to the store to pick them up. With the Nautilus tool, you look into the headset and see a number of simulated 360° interactive scenes projected onto the screen of a smartphone.

Using an application on a connected tablet, your vision service provider can adjust the variables, allowing you to see, feel, and test situations such as walking down stairs, riding a bike in a busy city, or reading a restaurant menu. The app also enables your optician to show you the impact of distortion, dust, rain, or fog on the lenses.

This immersion into virtual reality has many benefits: You experience firsthand the difference between regular and Varilux progressive lenses, you can test a thinner versus thicker lens, and you can fine-tune your correction. Your optician will guide you as you test different types of lenses such as polarized or Transitions® lenses. This trial means you can better understand the benefits your lenses can provide.

WHAT KIND OF FRAMES CAN I WEAR?

You can wear any style of frames you want with Varilux lenses.

Perhaps you are apprehensive about wearing varifocals for the first time. You may wonder if you’ll have to compromise on the aesthetics of your frames. Happily, that’s not the case. Today’s lenses are high-tech in optical terms, but they remain thin and lightweight. And unlike bifocals, they don’t have the unattractive visible lines separating the different focus areas that may remind you of your elders.

They can be paired with an almost unlimited choice of fashionable frame designs. So whether your tastes run to classic, vintage, geek-chic, or even trendier designer models, your progressive lenses will fit perfectly. Try out the many popular eyewear trends—oversized clear forms, black-rimmed, gold metal wireframes, aviators, hipster squares, tortoise shell, or wild reds, pinks, and purples—to find the one that suits you best. Whether you’re going for an intellectual, creative, or traditional look, there’s a fashionable choice for everyone. Best of all, no one will know you’re wearing progressive lenses.

Don’t think you’ll be cramped in your lifestyle choices. Varilux lenses will work for all kinds of activities: working at your computer, driving at night to visit friends, or playing tennis and other outdoors sports.

Crizal Anti-Glare Coating UV Protection

Do Crizal Anti-Glare coatings have UV protection?

Yes, Crizal Anti-Glare coating offers our most comprehensive daily protection against the invisible and often irreversible dangers of UV reflection.

What is UV light?

UV is a form of light/radiation that is not visible to the human eye. Sunlight is the primary source of ultraviolet radiation. UV light comes from all directions, reflecting off surrounding surfaces and creating dangerous exposure.

Why do I need UV protection?

UV damage is cumulative and often irreversible. Long-term exposure to UV radiation can increase the risk of certain eye conditions and diseases, such as UV-related cataracts, growths on the eye, and even certain skin cancers on the eyelids or around the eye area.

What are the side effects of UV?

Premature signs of aging, skin cancer, eye disease, wrinkles, and dark circles.

Why would I wear eye protection when it’s cloudy outside?

Over 40% of annual UV exposure is received during conditions when people are not in full sunlight and are less likely to wear eye protection. Complete UV protection on your everyday clear lenses can help protect the long-term health of your eyes.

Why would I need UV protection on the back side of my lens if it’s already on the front side? Isn’t that enough protection?

UV light comes from all directions, reflecting off surrounding surfaces and creating dangerous exposure. The back surface of everyday clear glasses has been found to reflect light coming from the back and sides of the lens, increasing UV light exposure to the eyes. Most sunglasses and clear lenses with higher-quality materials block UV light from transmitting through the front of the lens, but they do not address the UV light reflecting off the back side of the lens. Crizal Anti-Glare coating provides protection against backside UV reflection. Ask your eyecare professional about the benefits of Crizal Anti-Glare coating.

Transitions® Light Intelligent Lenses™

What are Transitions lenses?

Transitions lenses are the #1 eyecare professional recommended adaptive or photochromic lens worldwide. Transitions lenses are equipped with patented, photochromic dyes that enable the lenses to rapidly activate, or darken, when they are exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet light. The greater the intensity of UV rays, the darker the lenses become. When UV light is no longer present, including indoors or at night, the lenses fade back to their original state.

Are there different types of Transitions lenses?

To meet the diverse needs of our consumers, we have different options of everyday lenses that can be worn indoors and outdoors all day long: Transitions® Signature® lenses, Transitions® XTRActive® lenses, and Transitions® Vantage® lenses.

To fit every style, Transitions lenses are available in 7 different colours and 3 different mirror options.

Technology

How has the technology changed over the years?

The technology that Transitions lenses utilizes is continuously improving. Transitions® Signature® lenses darken to just the right amount of tint outdoors depending on the light conditions, fade back to clear quickly, and are as clear as a clear lens indoors.

In addition to Transitions Signature lenses, we have Transitions® XTRActive® lenses, which are uniquely designed to provide extra protection from light outdoors, indoors, and even in the car. It is our darkest everyday lens, even in the hottest climates.

The latest additions to the Transitions brand are the four new vibrant Transitions style colors and the three new exciting Transitions style mirrors.

Do I have to worry about the photochromic technology scratching or peeling off my Transitions lenses?

No, you do not need to worry. The technology behind our Transitions Light Intelligent Lenses ensures that the photochromic dyes are part of the lens and cannot be scratched off or peeled off and are designed to last for the life of your prescription. If you experience a problem with your lenses, we suggest you contact your eyecare professional or place of purchase.

What affects the performance of Transitions Lenses ?

Transitions lenses are activated by UV light. The amount of UV light present will determine how dark your lenses get. This is what allows you to see life with just the right amount of light.

Extreme situations can sometimes cause your lenses to behave slightly differently. For instance, temperature can have an effect on the reaction time of adaptive lens technology. To learn more, visit Transitions Light Intelligent Lenses' technology page.

Transitions Everyday Lenses Performance

Are Transitions lenses as clear as an ordinary clear lens indoors?

Transitions® Signature® lenses are completely clear indoors. Transitions® XTRActive® lenses and Transitions® Vantage® lenses have a hint of tint indoors for additional protection from light.

How dark do Transitions lenses get?

Most wearers find they are satisfied with the level of outdoor darkness with Transitions® Signature® lenses. But if you spend a lot of time outdoors or behind the wheel, or find that your eyes are especially light-sensitive, you may prefer Transitions® XTRActive® lenses, our darkest everyday lenses ever. If you spend a lot of time outdoors near snow or water, we also offer Transitions® Vantage® lenses, which polarize as they darken and are ideal for situations where glare is present.

Adaptive lenses react to their environment, so the level of darkness is affected by extreme temperatures, UV exposure, and lens materials.

How quickly do Transitions lenses darken outside?

Transitions lenses darken immediately upon exposure to UV light. The level of darkness will depend on the amount of UV light present, time of day, and direction of the sun.

How quickly do Transitions lenses return to clear?

Transitions lenses begin to fade back to clear as soon as UV rays are no longer present.

How long do Transitions lenses last?

Transitions lenses are designed to last two years, which is generally the lifetime of your vision care prescription.

In order to keep your prescription lenses current, regular, comprehensive eye exams are recommended to determine any prescription changes and help prevent any other eye problems. Talk to your eyecare professional or eye doctor to find out how often you should schedule a visit to preserve your eye health.

Light Intelligent Lenses vs. Clear Lenses

Why should I wear Transitions lenses instead of ordinary clear lenses?

Unlike clear lenses, which remain clear in all situations, Transitions lenses automatically adapt to changing light, providing your eyes with exactly the amount of shade they need for any situation, so you see things in the best light. They also protect your eyes from UV rays, and reduce exposure to harmful blue light, both indoors from digital devices and outdoors from the sun.

How do Transitions lenses differ from prescription sun lenses?

Unlike sun lenses, Transitions lenses start clear and then automatically darken when exposed to UV light. They continuously and smoothly adapt their levels of tint for enhanced visual comfort in changing lighting conditions, then return to clear in situations where no UV light is present, such as indoors and at night. Sun lenses have a set tint—no matter what situation you’re in, they’re always the same shade, and they’re rarely a good option indoors.

Transitions lenses are an ideal everyday lens for almost all everyday situations. Sometimes there are situations in which sun lenses or polarized sun lenses are the best option, like when driving extensively or when you are out near the water. In those situations, we recommend wearing specialized sunwear. That’s why we offer our prescription Xperio® sun lenses.

Do I still need prescription sun lenses?

Transitions everyday lenses are designed to be worn all day, every day and they provide a comfortable level of shade in bright sun. However, there are times when you could benefit from sun lenses. That’s why we offer our prescription Xperio® sun lenses.

How do Transitions® Vantage® lenses differ from polarized sun lenses?

Polarization filters bright sunlight that can cause glare so you can get better clarity. While Transitions® Signature® and Transitions® XTRActive® lenses are not polarized, Transitions Vantage lenses do offer variable polarization.

Transitions Vantage lenses are the first adaptive lenses that allow for variable polarization. As Transitions Vantage lenses darken when exposed to light, they also polarize, creating sharper, crisper vision. This is an everyday lens option, which means they are virtually clear inside as well, so you can wear them as your regular lenses.

Are Transitions Light Intelligent Lenses Right for Me?

How do I know if Transitions lenses are right for me?

If you’re looking for more than an ordinary lens can offer, Transitions lenses are right for you.

Transitions lenses are designed to fit virtually every frame, style, size, and prescription. That includes designer frames, kids’ sizes, and special prescriptions.

Transitions lenses are right for all ages. Anyone can benefit from seeing life with just the right amount of light. Transitions lenses are a great option for kids of all ages because it’s never too early to start protecting your eyes from UV rays and harmful blue light, both indoors and outdoors.

What lens types are Transitions lenses available in?

Transitions lenses have the widest availability of adaptive lenses on the market today. They are available in all major lens materials, including thinner, lighter polycarbonate and high-index materials. A variety of designs are available as well. Single vision lenses are prescription corrections for distance or near vision. Bifocals and progressive lenses account for distance and near vision correction in the same lens. Ask your eyecare professional for more information.

Do Transitions lenses work in all eyeglass frames?

Yes, Transitions lenses work in virtually any frame and material: plastic, metal, rimless, semi-rimless, or full frames.

Are Transitions Light Intelligent Lenses compatible with anti-reflective, anti-scratch, and anti-fog coatings?

Yes. Transitions lenses are compatible with anti-scratch and anti-fog coatings. And not only are they compatible with anti-reflective coatings (which reduce reflections off the lenses), but Transitions lenses are even better in reducing distracting, discomforting, and disabling glare, both indoors and out. Check with your eyecare professional or eye doctor to see which eyewear and lens options are right for you.

Are Transitions lenses suitable for children?

Yes, Transitions lenses are a great option for children. Did you know that the average child receives three times the UV exposure as an adult? Because children are constantly going from inside to outside and because their crystalline lens is not fully developed, allowing for more light to enter the eye, a lens that blocks 100% of UV rays is important to preserving their eye health now and in future years. Children are also more exposed to harmful blue light than ever before with significant digital device usage and time spent out in the sun. All Transitions lenses help protect from harmful blue light, both indoors and out. Additionally, Transitions lenses are available in polycarbonate material, which is shatterproof and frequently recommended by eyecare professionals for children’s lenses.

Are nonprescription Transitions lenses available?

Yes, Transitions lenses can be made without a prescription (this is called a “plano” lens) to fit in nearly any eyeglass frame. Ask your eyecare professional for more details.

Xperio® Sun Lenses

What are the benefits of Xperio polarized sun lenses?

Xperio polarized sun lenses eliminate dangerous glare—even dashboard glare—for greater driving safety, and they let you see even the smallest things with greater clarity, true colour perception, and total comfort. And unlike regular sunglasses, they also virtually eliminate glare, allowing you to see more clearly and comfortably outdoors. That’s one parameter you shouldn’t forget when choosing your next pair of sunglasses.

What is the difference between Xperio polarized and Xperio tinted sun lenses?

Xperio tinted lenses reduce glare and brightness, offering immediate visual well-being in the sun, but only Xperio polarized lenses eliminate dangerous and blinding glare, offering excellent visual comfort, better clarity of vision, and true colour perception.

What are the different Xperio sun lenses colour and mirror options?

Xperio sun lenses come in a wide variety of colours, mirrors, and styles, and fit into your choice of frames for a personalised look.

What is polarized light?

Light is emitted in waves by the sun or by artificial sources like a light bulb. These waves vibrate and travel in all directions from the source. This “flattened” light is known as “polarized light.” When light bounces off a shiny surface, it can become polarized and enter the eye, causing a blinding effect.

Are Xperio prescription sun lenses heavier or thicker than regular sun lenses?

The coating that delivers the exceptional performance of Xperio prescription sun lenses is very thin—thinner than a strand of hair. The actual thickness and weight of your glasses is a function of the lens material and prescription.

CLEANING MY LENSES

How do I clean my Xperio sun lenses?

The best way to clean your lenses is by first rinsing your lenses under warm, running water to remove any sandy/gritty debris, then cleaning with a mild liquid dishwashing soap to remove facial oils, rinsing with water, and drying with a soft cotton cloth. Finish by polishing your lenses with the microfiber cleaning cloth provided to you by your eyecare professional. You can also use the cloth for touch-up cleaning throughout the day when it is not convenient to wash the lenses.

How do I clean my cleaning cloth?

Cleaning cloths can be washed on the gentle cycle in the washer or hand-washed. We recommend that you do not use any laundry additives (such as fabric softener) which could leave a residue on the cloth. Ask your eyecare professional about purchasing additional cleaning cloths, if needed.

Can I use alcohol to clean my lenses?

Occasional use of alcohol on Xperio sun lenses will not be harmful. However, we do not recommend daily use of alcohol.

What do I do if I have hair spray or paint on my lenses?

If you cannot remove the hair spray with a mild detergent soap and running water, we recommend taking your lenses to your eyecare professional for evaluation and removal of the hair spray or paint from your lenses.

Can I use a lens cleaner?

Any commercially prepared lens cleaner formulated to be used with anti-reflective lenses can be used with Xperio sun lenses.

Other Questions

Can I keep my sunglasses in the car?

It is not advisable to store sunglasses in your automobile (e.g., leaving them on the dashboard of your car), especially in warmer climates. It will potentially damage your lenses and frames.

EYEZEN™+ Enhanced Single Vision Lenses

What are Eyezen+ lenses?

Eyezen+ lenses are an everyday pair of lenses, enhanced to provide comfort and protection for people who are on smartphones, tablets, and computers for hours at a time. Learn more.

What are the visual benefits of Eyezen+ lenses?

Eyezen+ lenses help to defend against strain on the eyes from extended use of digital devices. They also block at least 20% of harmful blue light emitted from phones, tablets, televisions, computers, and more.

What is the warranty on Eyezen+ lenses?

Warranties on Eyezen+ lenses vary among eyecare professionals, so be sure to ask your eyecare professional about his/her specific coverage and policies.

EYEZEN+ PROTECTION

Do Eyezen+ lenses block Blue Light?

Eyezen+ enhanced single vision lenses block at least 20% of harmful blue light rays. Our precision-engineered lenses let beneficial Blue-Turquoise Light pass through while deflecting a significant amount of harmful blue light.

What is Blue Light?

Blue light is part of the visible light spectrum. It comes from the sun, as well as artificial light sources like digital screens and fluorescent lights. This type of light gets absorbed deep in the eye, making it one of the most intense forms of visible light to humans.

Why do I need protection from Blue Light?

Harmful blue light may contribute to the development of certain eye conditions and is believed to increase the risk of age-related macular degeneration.

EYEZEN+ ENHANCEMENTS

What is digital eye strain?

The small type and pixelated images on digital devices force our eyes to work harder in order to focus. This can be hard on your eyes and may cause digital eye strain—even if you don’t currently wear glasses.

What causes eye strain?

Eye strain can occur when eyes get tired from intense use. One of the most common causes of eye strain is looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time—known as digital eye strain.

How does Eyezen+ combat eye strain?

Although your eyes are capable of focusing on screens all day, they really weren’t designed for hours and hours of up-close focusing day after day. Eyezen+ enhanced single vision lenses are enhanced to do some of the work for your eyes—resulting in less eye strain.

OTHER QUESTIONS

How often should I have my eyes checked and when should I replace my lenses?

Your eyesight and vision are critical to your overall health and well-being. It is recommended that you have a comprehensive eye exam annually and consult your eyecare professional on the best lens option for you.
